The RED, WHITE and BLUE...

Happy Fourth of July!

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend and safe travels.  Here are a few fun ideas for this upcoming holiday.

First things first,

Last week my husband saw a flag painted on a wood pallet, he asked me if I would make him one instead of buying one..."gladly"!

{I have everything we need to make it for $1.50 and you can pick up wood pallets at Whole Foods}

I am adding some sweet inspiration for your festivities this weekend...

You do not need DIY instructions.  Look at these ideas and come up with some really fun ones of your own.  Whenever I "wing it", it always turns out better than if I try to follow somebody else's step by step.

Go have fun with your families and let me know what you come up with!

How do you glow?

There is nothing better than a summer night after a little rain.  The misty steam lifting off the pavement and in the distance the rhythmic flicker of lightning bugs.  Last night was one of those nights.  There were so many of them hovering above the grass in our yard.  That called for a bug jar, of course, and inspired me to send all of my little 'Nookers home with one for their summer nights.

we loved watching them today, but we let them go...

Lightning Bug numbers are decreasing.
Turn your exterior lights off at night so they can find each other to mate {that is why they glow}!
Stop using so many pesticides!

Each child took home a bug jar, but we reminded them to keep their bugs for one day only so that they could go back to their families after their slumber party!

Do you know what is cool about these jars???

I painted them with glow-in-the-dark paint. What a great little night light for your bed side table!  You can pretend that there are lightning bugs, even if there aren't!

We sang this song in our Glow-in-the-dark room!

and waved our glow sticks when we said the word "flicker"...very fun song!

This is my attempt at Face Painting with glow paint!

Let's learn about these Bugs!

we talked about all sorts of bugs in our Exploration Room and learned about their stages of life.

Oh no, Mandy!  There is a very large ant crawling up your arm!

Lucy helped us read a book.

When it was time to get crafty, we made Lightning Bugs of our own and worked on our bug jars!

and that's how we glow!

Come on a Safari with me - 1st Birthday

Last weekend we sure took a walk on the wild side for a very fun first birthday celebration!

First birthdays are always so special for babies and parents.  Every year on my birthday my mother says ".....many years ago today I was..." and then we look at the picture of me with ice cream all over my face at my first birthday.  I know that Christine's parents will do the same.  It's the year of the smash cake!

Happy First Birthday Christine!

Thank you so much for Going on a Safari with me Christine!

Happy Birthday!!!!!
